Scope
UI wireframes and design system for menu-building platform MVP to test recipe order operations more efficiently.
The challenge
At McDonald’s Speedee Labs Innovation Center, new recipes undergo operations testing to simulate how they will perform in actual service scenarios. The current process for testing new recipes relies on manual inputs using a 30-year-old Excel document.
This outdated system led to human error and costly, disorganized testing experiences, particularly when recipes needed adjustments and/or substitutions.
Identifying critical data entry needs and designing the MVP UI
My team collaborated closely with the Speedee Labs operations team to thoroughly understand their manual processes and pain points that hindered efficiency.
We then designed MVP UI wireframes for the new automated platform. The platform leveraged a Global API to register ingredients to digitally form new recipes and menus with easy ingredient substitutions.

Additionally, we delivered a comprehensive UI design system to organize components for meal types, products, and ingredients. This system enables scalability for future menu builder feature additions.
Continuous improvement through realistic testing
Together with Speedee Labs, we simulated weekly order operations testing by playing the roles of employees and customers. Tasks included working the register, waiting in line, and picking up orders. This helped us identify when the MVP was improving efficiency and when we needed to drive continuous improvements.

Moved a 30-year-old Excel-based menu builder to an automated platform, reducing manual errors and accelerating order testing for new recipes.
